Program director

Michelle black, M.S., lmhc

Meet Michelle Black, Program Director for Crown Adolescent. Michelle has been working in the mental health field for about 20 years. Michelle began her journey working with adults suffering from chronic and debilitating mental health issues while obtaining her bachelors degree in Psychology at University of Massachusetts Lowell.

Michelle's work in the mental health field continued as a case manager for dual diagnose adults, seeking treatment primarily for substance abuse. In this setting, she strengthened her advocacy skills and gained experience running both female an co-ed groups. This is also where Michelle began her training in CBT, her favorite clinical approach to issues that frequently stem from self defeating beliefs and thought patterns. Michelle provided trauma-informed, culturally responsive care for years as a case manager before returning to school to get her master's in clinical mental health counseling at University of Massachusetts Boston. This is when Michelle began an internship at Children's Services of Roxbury and realized she loved working with the adolescent population. She remained at Children's Services of Roxbury for her post-master's experience and gained incredible experience working collaboratively with families providing the best possible care for children and teens with a wide range of mental health issues, including significant trauma. Michelle worked with families throughout the COVID pandemic, collaboratively finding solutions during a very difficult time for both children and their caregivers. Michelle is a licensed mental health counselor in the state of Massachusetts and is excited to create her vision of supervising a team that works tirelessly to provide the care that so many families are unable to find elsewhere during a time when they need it the most.
